A fundraiser has been set up following the tragic death of Cornish chef Matt Halford who died earlier this week, aged 38.

It comes after tributes poured in from friends and family of the head chef who was found collapsed at the Watering Hole bar on Perranporth Beach shortly after 9am on 18 March.

His death is not being treated as suspicious.

A post on the Watering Hole bar’s Instagram read: “Please see the just giving link for our loved captain Matt Halford who passed on Saturday. Was the best & most loved bloke we ever had in every single way.”

It added: “We are gathering around each other & this seems like the most fitting way by the page set up by his oldest son Jaden who’s one hell of a bloke as is all of his family.”

Opened in 1978, the Watering Hole bar is a family-run Cornish institution to the locals of Perranporth Beach, and is officially the UK’s only bar on a beach.

Paying tribute, Matt’s son Jaden, commenting on the crowd fund said: “Life will never be the same without Dad. He was a huge character who you would hear from a mile away! The one person anyone could go to and he would give his all to help and support you; from family and friends to work colleagues, he always just knew the right thing to say.”

“I cannot fathom the outpouring of love our family has received and this shows how much my dad meant to so many people and how many lives he touched.”

Jaden added: “Although we will have a hole in our hearts forever, he will never ever be forgotten. He has left behind a strong family who will always stick together and make him proud every day. Thank you to each and every person who has offered love and support, your kindness will always be with us.”

Money raised from the crowd fund will help Matt’s family continue the renovation of a house that Matt was in the process or self-renovating.
