Michelin Guide Switzerland 2017 announces 3 new two stars and 12 new one stars
The Michelin Guide Switzerland 2017 announces three new two stars - Silver, in Vals, an establishment that achieved its first Michelin star only a year ago, Ecco Zürich in Zurich and After Seven in Zermatt.
There are twelve new restaurants joining the guide with one star: Tsé Fung in Geneva, a restaurant offering Chinese cuisine, MEGU in Gstaad, a Japanese restaurant; IGNIV by Andreas Caminada in Bad Ragaz, Le Murenberg in Bubendorf, La Pinte des Mossettes in Cerniat, Glow by Armin Amrein in Davos, La Riva in Lenzerheide, Guarda Val in Lenzerheide-Sporz, Le Petit Manoir in Morges, Pur in Pfäffikon, La Maison du Village in Saint Aubin-Sauges and finally Le Jardin des Alpes in Villars-sur-Ollon.
This means Switzerland boasts the highest percentage of starred restaurants in Europe with 117 restaurants receiving stars in this year's Michelin Guide.
Michael Ellis, Michelin Guide International Director, said: "The inspectors’ 2017 selection once again confirms the high standard and the very great diversity of gastronomy on offer between Geneva and St Gall, Basel and Lugano.
“Switzerland is one of the most diverse culinary regions in Europe. The concentration of classic French restaurants, traditional cuisine and quality products is particularly dense there. In addition to these, Switzerland also has a large number of restaurants serving modern and innovative cuisine; a variety that everyone can discover in the Michelin selection.”
All the three star restaurants have retained their distinctions this year, they are Schauenstein in Fürstenau, Cheval Blanc by Peter Knogl in Basel and Restaurant de l’Hôtel de Ville in Crissier.
The Michelin Guide Switzerland 2017 marks an all-time record in terms of the number of restaurants awarded a Bib Gourmand, with 139 restaurants in total - 20 more than last year. This is an increase of 60% in five years (as against 87 in 2012). This award recommends restaurants that offer high quality meals at reasonable prices (starter, main course and dessert for a maximum of 70 Swiss francs).
The MICHELIN Guide Switzerland 2017 is available from October 7.
