Three new restaurants have been awarded three Michelin stars in the Michelin Guide Hong Kong Macau 2014.

The sixth edition for this region further highlights the high culinary calibre in the area with Bo Innovation, where the chef serves an innovative cuisine based on local ingredients, The Eight, situated in Macau, which offers a Chinese cuisine cooked at a remarkably high level and Sushi Shikon, a traditional sushi restaurant, all making the highest grade possibly.

There are now seven three-star restaurants with the four from last year all retaining their status. As well as that, the guide also includes 15 two star restaurants, 13 of which are in Hong Kong with the other two in Macau, and 51 one star establishments, 44 in Hong Kong and 7 in Macau.

Michael Ellis, international director of the Michelin Guides, said: “Our inspectors were thrilled to find ever increasing quality of the cuisine in Hong Kong and Macau. Proof of this amazing achievement is the new record of 72 starred establishments. “We are also amazed at the number of international restaurants being drawn in Hong Kong, a destination which is being a magnet for fine cooking from around the world.”

The guide also features 78 Bib Gourmand restaurants, 14 of which are new or promoted, as chosen by inspectors for their good value. The price limit for this category is a full three-course meal being available for HKD/MOP 300 or less. Other sections of the guide include simple shop restaurants.

There are 60 listed which are based on the criteria of being basic, local food stalls and some have even been awarded stars. In total, the guide includes 284 establishments from Hong Kong and 74 from Macau with a total of 52 new restaurants and five hotels included for the first time. These figures show a 30% increase on last year.

The Michelin Guide Hong Kong and Macau 2014 is available from today in Hong Kong and Macau and later this month in south east Asia.
