This year’s Michelin Guide 2015 Switzerland includes 18 new one-starred restaurants - 117 restaurants in total with at least one star - 40% more than five years ago.

According to Michael Ellis, International Director of the Michelin Guides, Switzerland is the country with the greatest number of Michelin starred restaurants per person. He said - “Thanks to a large number of high quality restaurants, Swiss gastronomy is particularly dynamic with a great diversity.”

The18 restaurants in this year’s guide receiving a star for the first time make 96 one-starred restaurants in total. These include Philippe Bamas – Restaurant Sonne and Les Quatre Saisons, both in Basel, and Maison Manesse in Zurich.

The town of Vitznau in Lucerne, which already has the two starred restaurant focus, is also the location of the newly starred PRISMA and Sens restaurants.

Meanwhile, in French-speaking Switzerland, there are three new one stars: La Table at Hotel Sapin in Charmey, Les Alpes in Orsières and Damien Germanier in Sion.

The number of three star restaurants remain the same this year, meaning Switzerland’s two top eateries – Restaurant de l'Hôtel de Ville in Crissier and Schauenstein in Fürstenau – retain their status. There also no new two stars, meaning the number stays at 19.

Finally, in the Bib Gourmand category – awarded to restaurants serving good food at a reasonable price – there are 31 new additions, making a total of 111 in the Michelin Guide 2015 Switzerland - more than any previous edition.
