Michael Caines to buy Georgian mansion Courtlands
Although the purchase is subject to the mansion achieving full planning permission, Michael was keen to stress that his passion for food, wine and community drives the project and that he will be aiming to bring his two Michelin stars with the aspiration to gain a third.
When we spoke to Michael previouslyhe told us: “I like hotels as I’ve obviously got expertise there…being at Gidleigh Park for 20 years I thought it would be good to have something to compliment that.”
He outlined these plans at a public consultation held on Monday in the Lympstone Methodist Church attended by locals who expressed both praise and concerns for Michael’s plans. However Michael assured that the development would serve a select clientele and in fact be less disruptive than the building’s current use as an events, conference and wedding venue and would provide employment and serve as a showcase for East Devon.
The 60-cover restaurant will feature his signature modern European cuisine that champions the produce of East Devon, the wider county and the South West.
Andrew Brownsword CBE, owner of Gidleigh Park said: “The high standards set and maintained by Michael over the last 20 years will no doubt set him in good stead as he begins his new endeavour. We look forward to supporting him as he looks to create another reason to visit the beautiful county of Devon.”
