Lima London team acquire second site in the capital
Peruvian chef Virgilio Martinez and his partners Gabriel and Jose Luis Gonzalez will open a second site on Garrick Street, Covent Garden, later this year.
The new restaurant will be named Lima Floral and follows on from the success of the original Lima two years ago which became the first Peruvian cuisine establishment to win a Michelin star when it was awarded in September 2013.
Gabriel Gonzalez, co-owner of Lima, said: “We are so excited to have found a beautiful site in Covent Garden. After two years of operating Lima, we thought it was time to develop a casual and fun offering with serious food credentials in this foodie destination.
“The cuisine will be of very high quality, using traditional and unique cooking techniques. Lima Floral will be split in two spaces: the main restaurant and a ‘piqueos bar’ (essentially a bar serving tapas dishes which is very traditional in Peru)”
As a result of the success Lima has achieved, the new site, which will again see Robert Ortiz operating as head chef, will feature some of Lima’s most popular dishes alongside some new plates.
The menu will include some rare Peruvian ingredients which have never been seen in London which Virgilio Martinez has helped to source through his work with Peru’s Mater Initiative which seek out unique edible plants in the diverse landscape in the country. As well as some produce from the Amazon or the Andes, Lima will continue to use British Isles produce as part of the team’s philosophy to work in harmony with the environment.
Highlights of Lima Floral will include scallops with chia ceviche, Amazonian fish with warm causa and kohlrabi and quinoa tiradito.
The restaurant and bar interior design is by B3 designers who have previously worked on projects such as Gymkhana, Bubbledogs and ROKA.
LIMA Floral is set to open on the corner of Garrick Street and Floral Street in July and should seat around 70 customers.
