Le Gavroche to treat visitors to a kiss under the mistletoe this Christmas
After demand from his diners, Michel Roux Jr has promised to plant a kiss on the cheek of visitors to Le Gavroche over the next couple of weeks.
For the first time ever, Le Gavroche will open on Boxing Day, New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day and in celebration Michel Roux Jr has promised to reward his guests under the mistletoe.
Michel said: “It’s the season of goodwill, and kissing under the mistletoe is a lovely tradition.
“We have mistletoe in our decorations all over the restaurant, so I think it’s going to be a very affectionate few days for us.”
Le Gavroche is usually closed during the Christmas season, but this year Roux Jr plans to open the restaurant for lunch on Christmas Eve and Boxing Day and for dinner on New Year’s Eve.
The restaurant, which is situated in Mayfair, was opened in 1967 and run by Albert Roux, Michel’s father.
But the now popular TV chef took over the reins of the primarily French-based menu establishment in 1991.
Le Gavroche was the first UK restaurant to be awarded one, two and three Michelin stars and it still holds two today.
Christmas Eve is completely fully booked but there is limited availability for Boxing Day or New Year’s Eve.
This will be the last chance for a while to sample the delights of Le Gavroche which is set to close for a month in January to undergo a refurbishment before reopening at the beginning of February.
