The Langham hotel is to serve Afternoon Tea with Wedgwood. The Wedgwood specialty teas in tailor-made “Langham Rose” Wedgwood teaware are part of special menus created by executive pastry chef, Cherish Finden.

The Langham has made afternoon tea their speciality ever since it was first served at the hotel almost 150 years ago. This continues to live on in all of The Langham hotels today. Managing Director of The Langham and regional Vice-President for Europe, Duncan Palmer, said:“The Langham, London and Wedgwood both have a long established history in presenting the best afternoon tea experience. We are delighted to launch the new afternoon tea experience in time for our 150th anniversary in 2015”.

Wedgwood is world-renowned for its luxury craftsmanship since 1759, gracing the tables of the British monarchy, the Vatican and The White House. With origins in the home of pottery, Stoke-on-Trent, it has consistently been at the forefront of the industry.

Leigh Taylor, Wedgwood’s group Vice President of Marketing and Design, said:“Wedgwood is a luxury lifestyle brand perfectly suited to the luxury experience synonymous with The Langham hotels.  The Langham Rose teaware is exquisitely designed to complement the sumptuous afternoon tea experience at The Langham.”

English afternoon tea is credited to the 7th Duchess of Bedford, lady-in-waiting to Queen Victoria.  She had experienced a ‘sinking feeling’ in the middle of the afternoon and asked for tea with bread and butter in her private room. The Duchess found the meal so satisfying she started inviting her friends for afternoon tea.  Since then, the simple bread and butter that first accompanied afternoon tea had developed into much more elaborate selections of sandwiches, scones, muffins, cakes, biscuits, gateaux and other desserts.

The Langham tea sommeliers have been trained and certified by the Wedgwood tea academy and will offer the luxury Afternoon Tea experience to guests. The partnership looks set to further enhance the reputation and legacy of this archetypally British pastime.
