Josh Overington announces new restaurant Mýse
This June, following the success of his York restaurant Le Cochon Aveugle, Josh and Victoria Overington will open Mýse (pronounced ‘meez’), a restaurant with rooms that celebrates the ancient North Yorkshire terroir that surrounds the restaurant in hovingham.
Shining a light on the highest quality produce in the local area and beyond, Mýse, which is named using an Anglo-Saxon word for ‘eating at the table’, will draw on the area’s rich history and put chef Josh's elegant spin on traditional Yorkshire cooking.
He said: “Mýse is an opportunity for us to finally realise our restaurant dream. We loved our time at Le Cochon Aveugle and think back on it fondly, but outgrew the space. This is our chance to create something more ambitious and a reflection on our incredible Yorkshire surroundings.
"I grew up here and it has been home to Victoria for ten years, so we wanted to create a welcoming, homely spot, each dish a nod to dinners that my Yorkshire grandmother would cook for me, but elevated and refined.”
The pair closed Le Cochon Aveugle at the end of November 2022, after almost nine years in operation. The restaurant, which won numerous accolades over the years for its innovative blind tasting menu, had been hugely popular, winning praise from both critics and the general public.
At the time, Josh said: “This hasn’t been an easy decision to make but the time has come for us to look at some new opportunities which have come our way."
Later on this year, Joshua and Victoria will be opening three renovated bedrooms at Mýse, meaning guests can climb the staircase tucked away by the snug after dinner and enjoy a relaxed overnight stay. Overlooking the Hovingham Hall Estate opposite the restaurant, each characterful room will provide a view of the expansive North Yorkshire countryside.
