Jason Atherton, restaurateur and Michelin starred chef, announces the opening of his new venture City Social; located in the London skyscraper Tower 42 (in partnership with Restaurant Associates).

The venue on the 24th floor features art deco style interiors created by award winning designers Russell Sage Studios. Head chef Paul Walsh (previously sous chef at Royal Hospital Road) has worked closely with Atherton to design a menu which features creative yet simple dishes, showcasing the best of British ingredients.

Atherton said: “Restaurant Associates and my team are really excited to have opened City Social. Customers will walk into my restaurant from the lifts and immediately see the Gherkin, The Cheesegrater, and all those iconic buildings that have shot up in London over the past decade, right in front of your eyes. The restaurant is serving beautiful cuisine in a glamorous environment.”

The City Social menu has been carefully crafted to complement the stunning views from Tower 42. Some seasonal signature dishes available include; English asparagus salad, pecorino cream cheese, soft poached hen’s egg and bone marrow crumbs, and line caught sea bass, deep fried oyster, cucumber, sea fennel and oyster veloute. For the first time ever Atherton has added a pasta and rice selection to the menu. For dessert, customers can enjoy another Atherton debut- strawberry soufflé, macerated strawberry salad, yoghurt sorbet.

The City Social bar seats 85 people, and in keeping with the design, serves a selection of cocktails inspired by 1910-1930s prohibition era. Award winning mixologist Gareth Evans (group bar manager across Jason Atherton’s restaurants) has created simple, short, spirit based cocktails featuring Scotch and American whiskies, gins and cognacs. Sommelier Nicolas Pierron is on hand to guide diners through the wine list and Andy Downton (previously at Claridges and D&D London’s The Old Bengal Warehouse) is the general manager.

Working with Atherton, Russell Sage Studios has created a contemporary art deco look to City Social. Diners are able to enjoy incredible views of London from wherever they are seated. The focal point of the venue is the free standing, dramatic black and steel open kitchen in the centre of the dining room. Here, guests can dine at the chef’s table while watching the kitchen team at work.
