British Onions, Yes Peas! and Love Your Greens and  have promised to support KNORR® gravy to encourage pubs to celebrate roast dinners for the British Roast Dinner Week competition.

The companies have joined forces to encourage pubs to celebrate the traditional British meal and put roasts on their menu every day during the week.

The overall winner will be crowned ‘Winner of the Best British Roast Dinner’, receive six tubs of KNORR® Gravy Paste and COLMAN’s® English Mustard each, a day with a pub consultant, and £10,000 worth of PR to promote their win.

Associations will be sharing roast dinner news and expert advice with members, including supporting the event with #BRDW on Twitter, in the lead up to the annual calendar event.

Chris Brown, channel trade marketing manager at Unilever Food Solutions, said: “Serving a roast can really help pubs increase profits, previous winners have seen food sales increase by 50%.

“Roasts just wouldn’t be complete without peas, onions and greens. So, teaming up with these industry associations will help us spread the word even further about the commercial benefits of pubs serving roast dinners.”

British Roast Dinner Week will be running for its fourth year. The annual competition celebrates the roast dinner and encourages pubs, restaurants, hotels and staff canteens to serve roasts every day.

Last year’s competition saw a record number of entries, with 80% more pubs and restaurants putting their best roast forward in an effort to be crowned home of Britain’s Best Roast Dinner.

The roast dinner is the number one meal for pub-goers . In fact, a quarter of customers claim they’d choose it over any other dish. And with 1.2bn roasts eaten in the UK every year , making this much loved-meal available to customers can be a real sales driver for pubs.

As part of its ongoing pub campaign, Unilever Food Solutions is also sharing insight from pub food expert Chris Barber, and has created a guide, downloadable from www.ufs.com/pubs, filled with hints, tips and support to help pubs serve a standout roast and bring in the bookings.

British Roast Dinner Week runs from 28 September to 4 October 2015. To enter, operators must offer a roast dinner on their menu and answer four questions about what makes their roast special before. Entries close on 16 August.
