Gaggan retains top spot in Asia’s 50 Best Restaurants list
Now in their sixth year, Asia’s 50 Best Restaurants sponsored by S.Pellegrino and Acqua Panna was revealed the 2018 awards at an awards ceremony at Wynn Palace in Macau last night.
After first appearing on The World’s 50 Best Restaurants list in 2014 at number 14, Gaggan has stayed at number seven for the past two years and is number one in Asia’s 50 Best Restaurant.
Chef Gaggan Anand who opened Gaggan in 2010 announced at the awards that he would be shutting down his award winning restaurant in 2020 with plans to open several new restaurants in Japan. The 2018 list featured eight new entries, including seven from Singapore.

The Highest Climber was a joint award with Taiwan’s Mume and Hong Kong’s The Chairman both climbing 25 places up the list. Mume’s went from number 43 to number 18 while The Chairman went from number 47 to number 22. The Highest Entry Award went to La Cime in Japan which debuted on the chart at number 15. Other notable awards on the list include Yoshihiro Narisawa who won the Chef Choice Award which is voted by fellow chefs on Asia’s Best 50 Restaurant list and Nicolas Lambert of Caprice went away with the award for Asia’s Best Pastry Chef sponsored by Valrhona.
Earlier in the year Bongkoch ‘Bee’ Satongun of Thailand won Best Female Chef while her restaurant Paste came in at number 31 on the list.
The recipient of The Diners Club Lifetime Achievement Award was André Chiang whose Restaurant André came in at number three despite closing at the end of last year.
