Ferran Adrià announces an exclusive series of celebration dinners
Ferran Adrià and Financial Times How To Spend It magazine are to co-host an exclusive series of four dinners to celebrate the launch of elBulli 2005-2011, a monumental seven-volume compendium of 750 recipes from the iconic Catalan restaurant elBulli, published by Phaidon.
The dinners which sold out within hours of being released on the website, marks the 20th anniversary of How To Spend It magazine and involves an opportunity to experience the legacy of what is still considered to be the most revolutionary and influential restaurant in culinary history with elBulli’s legendary chef himself.
Taking place in London, Hong Kong, Geneva and New York each dinner will be co-hosted Ferran Adrià and Gillian de Bono, the editor of How To Spend It. Guests will have the opportunity to dine with and ask questions of Ferran, who will also speak about his time at elBulli and his vision for the future of gastronomy.
These intimate, dining experiences will feature menus inspired by the creative legacy of elBulli devised by the most creative chefs working today and served in their world-leading restaurants. In London and Hong Kong, Chef Jason Atherton was the first British chef to complete a stage at elBulli in 1998 therefore it is fitting that he will create the first two dinner menus.
The launch dinner will be held at his Michelin-starred Pollen Street Social restaurant in London on 4th June and the second dinner will take place in Hong Kong on 16th June at his newest restaurant, the Aberdeen Street Social. Discussing his involvement in this project and his time working alongside Ferran Adrià at elBulli, Atherton said “it was the greatest year of my culinary life. I learnt so much and I was so happy working and learning from someone so intelligent.”
At each event, diners will be greeted by the hosts at a champagne reception, followed by a five-course tasting menu, with wine pairing, inspired by the legacy of elBulli. Each ticket will include a personally dedicated copy of elBulli 2005-2011 – Ferran’s seven volume catalogue raisonné. Furthermore, each guest will also receive a copy of Colman Andrews’ biography of Adrià entitled ‘Reinventing Food: Ferran Adrià- The Man Who Changed the Way We Eat.”
