Date announced for this year’s National Waiters Day
Put the date in your diary - Thursday 25th September has been confirmed for this year’s National Waiters Day with a race to mark the event taking place in London’s Hyde Park at 4pm.
The brainchild of Fred Sirieix, National Waiters Day is designed to celebrate all front of house staff – whether a waiter in a fine dining restaurant, a shaker, a mixologist in a cocktail bar or a barista the day celebrates the 2.5 million working in the Hospitality industry in the UK.
The race in Hyde Park involves a dash through Hyde Park where participants will battle to keep a glass and bottle of water on their tray all the way to the finish line. The entry fee is £10 per person with money from race entries going towards a training programme developed by Springboard to INSPIRE and educate individuals looking to start a career in Front of House.
Restaurants are the largest sector of the UK Hospitality industry:
- Approx 170,000 establishments serving food and drink
- 161,100 managers
- 237,700 waiting staff
- 202,200 bar staff
- 84,700 more jobs predicted by 2017
The day aims to change the perception of Front of House and Service as an unskilled job working long hours to one of a job that offers good skills, lead to a rewarding career with good progression routes and amazing rewards.
