Lancashire lad Danny Young impressed judges at the North West Young Chef of the Year competition. Danny is an apprentice at The Northcote, which holds one Michellin star. The 20 year old chef prepared a three course menu for two judges, using local and seasonal ingredients to the area, which included:

Formby asparagus, poached Bowland’s Forrest free-range egg & hollandaise,
Wheat-fed Goosnargh guinea fowl, leg kiev, scorched baby gem, summer pods & parsley shoots,
Hesketh Bank strawberries, Simpson’s organic cream & Northcote's garden mint

Danny’s chef mentor Nigel Haworth ““In just three short years Danny has proven his mettle the kitchen – demonstrating great talent in devising and executing dishes that we are proud to put on our restaurant tables.”

Following the win, Danny has gained entry into the semi-final of the Craft Guild of Chefs National Young Chef competition. This will give the young apprentice an opportunity to showcase his work on a national scale.
