Food outlets will be forced to display hygiene ratings

Wales has become the first part of the UK to force food outlets to prominently display food hygiene ratings.  The new law, which came into force on Thursday, builds on a voluntary scheme, known as "scores on the doors".  Over the next 18 months, restaurants, takeaways and supermarkets must display ratings from 0 (lowest) to 5 (highest).

Las Iguanas introduce three new restaurants

Restaurant chain Las Iguanas have opened three new restaurants across the UK, just in time for Christmas.  After benefiting from increased business during last summer’s Olympic Games, the Latin American group have now been able to add establishments at Designer Outlet in Wembley, Cribbs Causeway in Bristol and Queen Street in Exeter. Cheese already has a nose-wrinkling reputation when it comes to aroma, so imagine a fromage freshly made from a foot, or matured from the stinky sweat of an aromatic armpit.  That’s exactly what American scientist Christina Agapakis and Norwegian scent expert Sissel Tolaas have done as part of an exhibition about synthetic biology in Dublin.
