A cookbook with a difference, Rapper’s Delight is a fusion of Hip Hop, food and art

Forget deconstructed dishes and the latest flavoured foam – we want a bowl of Wu-Tang Clam Chowder! Big name Hip Hop artists such as, Snoop (Dogg) stroganoff, (Missy) Tiramisu Elliot and the hottest rappers from today and yesteryear inspire their own classic recipe with a twist in Rapper's Delight: The Hip Hop Cookbook.

The concept is the brainchild of Joseph Inniss, Peter Stadden, who designed the layout and Ralph Miller, the editor of the book, who has a background in TV production and newspaper journalism.

“None of us are chefs,” explained Ralph. “But we are all very keen foodies and we’re all interested in music. It’s our love of food and our love of Hip Hop which has created this strange fusion.

“We hope people will like it and find it funny. It’s not Jamie Oliver or Nigel Slater but it contains recipes that we are really proud of, they’re interesting and they have a twist. We hope the book is entertaining but also encourages people to get cooking.”

Rapper’s Delight celebrates the many humorous parallels between food and Hip Hop, making it a must-have for anyone with a love for cooking, music or illustration, or indeed all three.

Each of the recipes is accompanied by a bespoke piece of artwork, created by one of thirty of the best upcoming illustrators.

“The ideas for the recipes came from the rap artists and then we designed recipes to fit with their names, songs and their characteristics,” explained Ralph. “For example - the name "Run DM Sea Bass" came first, then we thought, ‘what’s really nice way to eat sea bass?’ Then from there we added a bit of Run DMC’s personality to the dish – it was a weird process.

“We are all fans of hip hop music and the book gave us the chance to combine our love for hip hop with our love for cooking. We don't personally know any of the featured rappers but have links to one or two through friends of friends and through the publishers.

"The book is meant to be a tribute to them and that is why we have made reference to our favourite songs. We hope people will enjoy the puns and the artwork, can learn some new recipes and discover hip hop artists they might not be so familiar with.”

The book is tailored to be family-friendly (no expletives) for each recipe, although if you look closely there are a few inuendos, Ludacrispy Duck with Ho-Sin sauce being one. All of the 30 recipes come with their own difficulty rating and are accessible to all levels of cooking ability.
