Alan Jones, a former finalist of the Gordon Ramsay Scholarship Award has taken up a new post as head chef at Clevedon Hall and aims to make the venue one of the best in the South West.

Having worked with some of the country’s top Michelin-starred Alan joins Clevedon Hall after two years as head chef at Cowley Manor Hotel and Spa in Cheltenham.

Alan said: “I was attracted to Clevedon Hall as it’s a stunning venue with a great reputation and has the potential to become one of the best venues in the south west. It is my main goal to achieve this, serving locally sourced ingredients with only the highest standards in mind.”

Having graduated from City of Bristol College, Alan started his culinary career at Criterion Brasserie, in Piccadilly, as chef de partie under the tutorage of top chef Marco Pierre White.

After being part of the team that opened Neat Restaurant, under Michelin-starred chef Richard Neat, Alan joined the Michelin-starred Foliage at the Mandarin Oriental Hyde Park as chef de partie.

In the following years, Alan worked at a number of venues including a stint as sous chef at The Greyhound, which was featured in The Gastro Pub Cookbook, and Lucknam Park Country House Hotel, winner of Tatler’s ‘Best Out Of Town’ award.

In 2007, Alan took up his first head chef position at Almeida, where he created a fresh, seasonal menu with strong influences from his classical French background, before moving on to head up the team at Cowley Manor.

John McCarthy, Sales Director of Clevedon Hall, said: “We are thrilled to welcome Alan to the team. The timing could not be more perfect as we continue to grow and build our reputation as an exclusive, luxury venue. With his exceptional talent and wealth of experience working under some of the country’s top chefs, we know he will make the dining experience here at Clevedon something truly special.”
