Andrew Brownsword Hotels has announced Chris Eden will take over as Executive Head Chef at Gidleigh Park on September 1 2019.

He replaces Chris Simpson who left in January.

Chris joins Gidleigh Park from Driftwood in Cornwall, where he has been head chef for the last 12 years, Chris was awarded a Michelin star in 2012, becoming the first Cornish born chef to hold a star in their home county.  Retaining the star ever since, Chris was additionally awarded a fourth AA rosette in 2018, becoming just one of four chefs in Cornwall to hold this accolade.

Chris said: “Having grown up in the south west, to take up this role at Gidleigh Park is the stuff of childhood dreams.  Gidleigh Park’s great team, beautiful setting and iconic reputation combine to make this such an exciting opportunity and I can’t wait to get started”.

Born and bred in Cornwall, and having spent most of his career in the south west, Chris has also spent time in London, cooking under Paul Gayler at The Lanesborough, under Chris Galvin at The Orrery and for Phil Howard at The Square, before he returned to Cornwall in 2007 to take up his position at Driftwood.

Andrew Brownsword Hotels added: “We are delighted to welcome Chris and are looking forward to him bringing his produce-led ethos to the kitchens of Gidleigh Park.  His style, beautifully laced with touches of adventure and invention, creates refined plates where flavour is king.  Chris’ passion for great produce is infectious, always handled with exceptional skill and care, and we are very much looking forward to enjoying his menus at Gidleigh Park”.
