Chef Matt Worswick is stepping down as executive head chef of Savoy Grill

Matt Worswick is stepping down from his role as executive head chef at Savoy Grill, a year after taking on the role at the iconic London Hotel.

Announcing the news on social  media, the chef thanked his teams past and present "for their hard work and dedication," wishing Gordon Ramsay "all the very best and continued success for the future at Savoy Grill."

Matt Worswick took on the role of executive head chef at Savoy Grill in October last year after his plans to become the executive chef at Jason Atherton's The Shanghai EDITION  fell through as a result of the pandemic.  

At the time, he said: “I’m really excited about what the future will bring for Savoy Grill and where we can take it in the future with the full support of Gordon and the excellent restaurant group team.”

In August of this year, Gordon Ramsay announced that he would be putting his name to another restaurant at The Savoy Hotel, The River, a seafood eatery designed by Russell Stage Studio, featuring a central bar offering oysters, caviar and ceviche. The restaurant is now open, and was also overseen by Matt Worswick.

It is unclear what the chef's next move might be; he did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

Originally from Liverpool, Matt honed his craft at Teän at St. Martins-on-the-Isle on The Isles of Scilly with Kenny Atkinson, before moving to Le Champignon Sauvage, working under David Everitt-Matthias - a role he called his ‘finishing school.’  He took these skills to Glenapp Castle, holding the Michelin star there aged 26, before moving onto Thornton Hall, followed by The Latymer, replacing Michael Wignall.

The chef remained at The Latymer for four years, earning and retaining a Michelin star there. When he left, Steve Smith took his place as head chef.

As well as leading some of the country's top kitchen's, Matt has appeared on both Great British Menu and MasterChef: The Professionals.
