Taking its inspiration from the original Café Murano, which opened in 2013 on St. James’s Street, Angela Hartnett's latest venture Café Murano Tavistock Street, will take a simple and seasonal approach to Italian cooking.

Angela has worked alongside new head chef, Richard Lloyd, formerly sous chef at Hartnett, Holder and Co. to create the menu. It was inspired by recent trips to Italy and will be northern Italian in focus, with a particular emphasis on the coastal regions. An all-Italian wine list will complement the menu’s dishes. Angela said: “I am thrilled to be opening Café Murano in the heart of Covent Garden’s opera quarter. This area of London is cultured but laid back and that chimes completely with our approach to dining. “I am looking forward to working with Richard, whose maturing talent I have witnessed at Hartnett, Holder and Co., and to making Café Murano Tavistock Street a unique and valued addition to the area.”

The new venture will open in June this year, and will also include a food and wine shop adjacent to the restaurant. The shop will specialise in freshly prepared pasta, sauces and Italian wines to take away. The 140 cover restaurant will be set across two floors: the ground floor will feature banquette seating, with the bar being the focal point along the left-hand wall where guests will be able to enjoy counter dining and watch the bartenders at work. Opposite the bar, fresh seasonal produce, breads and antipasti will be showcased. Upstairs, the 64 cover dining space will have a glass roof, latticed with wooden tiles, its own bar, and tables with banquette seating. By Samantha Wright
