British tennis legend Tim Henman and his wife Lucy are amongst other investors to have contributed towards the purchase of the Oxfordshire pub Olivier at the Chequers.
The pub located in a beautiful Grade II-listed building in the village of Aston Tirrold rebranded from The Chequers pub after it was announced that chef Olivier Bouet would continue to run the pub’s kitchen.
A statement from Olivier’s wife Stephanie, reported by British press, announced that: “A small group of investors including the Henmans purchased the freehold of the pub. Olivier and myself are running the operations.”
The pub which closed last year after struggling with the effects of the pandemic has praised the Henmans for stepping in and supporting them with their reopening and new branding.
Described as a gastropub situated in the heart of Oxfordshire, the pub is housed in a listed building dating back to the 15th century.
It’s been reported that the pub was previously Tim Henman's local watering and was about to shut its doors for good.
Described on their website as a place to “cosy up in the winter months” or “spend a long summer's evening under the veranda” the Olivier at the Chequers offers a varied modern European menu.
Guests visiting the pub can expect to see seasonal dishes such as Cornish fish served with sun-dried tomato risotto and a white burgundy sauce; and Escalope of Chiltern venison served in port gravy with creamed cabbage and chips, to name a few.
The pub’s wines menu list includes an eclectic mix of raw and natural wines from across the world including wine from small-scale growers who often employ traditional methods.
