The results are in from Brighton and Hove’s first ever Best Restaurants Awards, with Michael Bremner’s 64 Degrees heading up the list of the city’s 20 best eateries.

Voted for by experts including national food writers, chefs, restaurateurs, business leaders, critics and gourmands, all of whom boast an intimate knowledge of the Brighton and Hove restaurant landscape, the awards are a celebration of the city’s burgeoning food scene, and its growing status as one of the UK’s premiere dining destinations.

Michael’s menu of innovative small plates puts a focus on fresh, local produce, and was recently awarded a Bib Gourmand by the Michelin inspectors. The Chilli Pickle, The Salt Room, The Set and Silo completed the top five, in a hotly contested race to be crowned Brighton’s top restaurant

Michael told The Staff Canteen: "I'm absolutely thrilled that 64 Degrees won best restaurant at Brighton's Top 20 Awards; to win Best Chef on top of this is just fantastic. What makes it all the more special is that the votes came from people within the field, so to receive this acknowledgement really means so much.

"Credit must also obviously go to the extremely talented team I have behind me at 64 Degrees. They're a great group of guys and the award for best restaurant is testament for their hard work, especially my head chef, Sam Lambert, he's someone I have total trust in to run the restaurant when I'm not around."

Co-organiser of the awards and celebrated food critic Andy Lynes said the following: “I was delighted to see 64 Degrees top the list. Chef and owner Michael Bremner and his team helped kick-start the current restaurant renaissance in Brighton, so it's great to see them recognised by the city's food fraternity.”

Michael Bremner was also the winner of the individual award for Top Chef, while Rob Smith of The Little Fish Market scooped the award for Top Welcome and Johan Claesson of Plateau was recognised as Top Barkeep.

“Brighton is now a serious restaurant destination, but the rest of the country hasn't quite yet cottoned on to the fact and that's why we launched the awards,' says Lynes. ‘Thanks to staff from established restaurants like the Gingerman Group opening their own places, and new talent being drawn to the city off the back of success stories like 64 Degrees, there have never been so many great places to eat out in Brighton.”
