Market Report - UK Seasonal update 4 February 2014
In association with
Hello Chef, and welcome to February!
Worldwide wet weather is causing some crop failure and harvesting issues.
We hope that it does not continue into spring, as insect pollination can be affected which may cause produce issues for certain lines for the rest of the year.
An example is the unusual cultivated stems of sea kale.
All hopes are pinned on Scotland where the farmer is trying to crop weekly, and has every bunch sold way before it is cut from the ground.
On a brighter note our buying options with producers, and The World’s fruit & veg markets put us in the best possible position to get the goods.
If that fails, we will lean on extensive preserved options like our forefathers.
Wild Mushrooms & Truffles
Chanterelle Grey & Yellow Legged from France, Spain & Portugal.
Pied de Mouton from Spain & Portugal
Girolles from Spain & Portugal
Trompette supply is getting stickier than a very sticky thing.
We are buying both Italian & Perigord black winter truffles.

Game
Last week of birds as Saturday saw city gents store away their green wellies until the season kicks off again in August.
We continue with venison and wild boar to complete February at least.
As usual, this is just a smattering of what we have on offer. Call in on 020 7498 5397 to speak to the team about what other treats we have in store for you today.
