Autumn truffles are still good, and we are slap-bang in the middle of an excellent white truffle season.
Fresh ceps are coming from South Africa to side step the pitfalls of European crop infestation.
Whilst weather remains mild, we are still seeing excellent chanterelle, pied de mouton and girolle from Scotland to compliment a range of continental sourcing options.
Trompette availability is reducing, and as a result prices are climbing. It won’t be long before we switch to the US.
Fruits
English Russet, cox and Worcester apples are all in excellent shape.
Comice pears are ready to eat as juicy, soft and sweet. Williams and red Williams pears are in good supply but need cooking.
Clementines from Spain are outstanding for so early on in the season.
Fresh chestnuts join our extensive preserved chestnut range.
The mighty bergamot orange has started with it’s unique “Earl Grey” aroma.
Turkish black figs and French speciality grapes remain supurb.
Vegetables
Golden, candy striped and crapaudine beets are weathering well as always.
Chervil & parsley roots give a herbal high to purees.
The magnificent Castel Franco and other endives such as the Italian punterelle are lovely.
Crosnes supply is now steady.
Purple, golden and romanesco cauliflowers can still grace our plates.
It’s peak season for squash, from fun spaghetti to delicious ironbar varieties and most options in between.
