This week's market report from Wild Harvest features girolles, bergamot oranges and candy beets as well as a whole host of other fruit and vegetables currently in season which you can see below:

Wild Mushrooms & Truffles

Girolles are now coming from the US. Prices have gone up as have sizes. Eyes peeled for a Portuguese crop.

Chanterelle, pied de mouton, trompette and mousseron are all coming from the protected special microclimate of Bulgaria.

We gracefully bow out of the European cep season before it turns nasty, and eagerly await the serious drought to end in South Africa which should bring Porcini.

Autumn & white truffles continue from Italy.

We will let the winter truffles from Italy & the Perigord region of France mature in the ground until firmly into December.

Fruits

Bergamot oranges have made an appearance for those seeking that “Earl Grey” spicey hit from their citrus. Enjoy and preserve when you can, as they normally vanish by mid December. The name stems from the Italian town of Bergamo very near Lake Como.

Here’s a list of other seasonal fruits flourishing in cooler conditions:-

Vegetables

Such is the demand for beet varieties that cultivation in Europe is year round. You sometimes see availability wobble in August but these flavour packed roots are in great shape right now.

The candy or chioggia beet has long been a Wild Harvest poster boy. It’s less likely to make a mess by bleeding over your plates than its purple cousin. The name Chioggia stems from another Italian town, this time in the Venice area.

As above here’s a list of vegetables fit for the table:-
