Michelin today unveiled four new additions to the two Michelin star club plus three newly awarded one star restaurants and eight retaining their three stars in the Michelin Guide Hong Kong Macau 2017.

Michelin Guide Hong Kong Macau 2017 features 238 restaurants in Hong Kong and 68 in Macau and the entirety of three star restaurants maintain their stars. The four establishments which have been awarded two stars are, Kashiwaya, which went straight to two stars after opening last year, Ta Vie, which has been bumped up from its one star ranking, and Mizumi and Feng Wei Ju, which are both based in Macau. Gaining a coveted Michelin star for the first time were Cantonese restaurants, Lai Heen, Ying and Pearl Dragon each receiving the accolade for the first time.

Michael Ellis, International Director of the Michelin Guides said: “The Hong Kong market has stabilised, gained in quality, and maintained a very rich offering with 49 different cuisines listed in the guide this year. Over the past three years our inspectors have noted a real development in Japanese cuisine, with more and more Japanese chefs deciding to open branches of their existing Japanese gastronomic establishments.

“This phenomenon is reflected in the 2017 selection of the Michelin Guide, with two stars awarded to the Hong Kong branch of Kashiwaya, a restaurant from Osaka, and the Tokyo establishment Sushi Tokami awarded a star for the first time.”

75 restaurants have also been given a Bib Gourmand, a distinction awarded by inspectors to establishments serving quality menus featuring three dishes for a maximum price of HKD 300.

This year’s Street Food category features 21 addresses in Hong Kong and 12 in Macau, reflecting the local gastronomic landscape and lifestyle.

The Michelin Guide Hong Kong Macau 2017 is available to view online and will be available in bookstores from November 10.
